Re: 98 vw beetle- Questions?

Did you have or purchase it with a warranty and how long have you had the car?

1-*** ? 2-*** if it's full of freon then it may be electrical. 3-*** here in my state we have inspection and are required to replace rotors if under spec. Not sure what's it like up north. 4.*** how do you know, but mostlikely causing your trans problem. Bet it goes crunch going into R

I am in Canada and this is the first car I have ever owned.

> I have read the motor vechile dealers act. I think it is a possibility. > Does anyone know where I can get a professional written opinion on ex: Is > is possible to wear out a clutch in that short of time?
5-***How short of time that's a very "unclear" statement. And I have seen VW owners go through 3 clutches in 20,000 miles. 99.9% of the time the clutch goes bad because of the owners driving habbits.
The car always had problems with first gear and a very stiff clutch. I never > realized anything was wrong.
6-*** Should of questioned the dealer/shop sooner

I have not even driven the car over 80kms/hr yet.

7-*** shouldn't matter

Hello Woodchuck Powertrain warranty 12months/20000kms- clutch is not covered under this warranty.

I have had the car 3 months and driven it 3500kms A/C was completely empty -garage checked for leaks and then emptied it again.also checked fuses and switch

Yes we have safety inspections that must be done before the car is sold the dealership did its own safety inspection

  1. Car is at the transmission repair shop now. They had asked me to take it to vw first to see if they might know of any smaller reason that it might be doing this. Did take it to vw adviced tranmission problem and it would be 0 just to look at the transmission. Went back to first garage. They started work on it and called to say clutch was finished. Still don't know yet what exactly is wrong with the transmission. Maybe tommorrow I will know its been ther 2 days so far Can a clutch go in 3500kms/3months? Car had trouble with first/rev and stiff clutch from from day one.

What kind of driving habits would were out the clutch that quickly?

Welcome to the wonderful world of VWs.

If the car is out of alignment, this is very possible.

Was the car ever in a accident?

Did it work when you got it?

Did they refill it and it still doesn't work?

Sounds like the emergency brake was used when it had not been used before.

With VWs you either use the EB all the time or never. The rotors do not hold up well in any case.

Was there any warranty at all with this car?

I don't know Canadian laws but in the US you can't use small claims for something like this.
