I suggest it may be the battery, cable, clamps or the fusible link. I would have to guess the mechanic could not determine witch. I would also guess that it tends to be less of a problem when warm so when the mechanic looked at it , it was warm. You may need to leave it over night. If the battery is over three years old, I might suggest just replacing it and the cables, rather than try and hunt this thing down.
