Has anyone replaced the heater hoses on an A1 (81 rabbit convertible) with AC. Is this going to be as painful as I expect? I haven't gotten a chance to look at the Bentley yet so I hopping someone here has done it before. Am I going to have to split the case around the heater core/ AC cooler?

If it's anything like my 84 jetta you'll have a small cover on the driver's side of the heater core w/ about 3 screws. You won't have to remove the heater core assy at all. All work is under the dash. My cover had 2 holes in it that the hoses slide through. When I put it back together I purposely broke the cover so I wouldn't have to fish the hoses through those holes. Now the cover fits over the hoses and it makes it easier for replacement.
