Suntrup VW in St. Louis

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has used them for service or buying a car from there out in South County. I bought my car in Tennessee when I lived down there for a short time and used Suntrup for my service when I moved back to STL. Now I always had some kind of issue with them. I was also having a huge problem with the brake light switch and my engine light was always on almost causing me to fail the emission test. Well, I had the brake light switch replaced like 2 times and one time they said they had to go through 6 of them just to get one that works right. However months later it would start messing up again. Well, on MSN.com auto section I put in my VIN # and found out there was a recall on that part and it effected my car. I never got a recall letter from VW but I had to take it in to get it replaced. I was talking to one of the guys there and he didn't even tell me that it had been recalled but said that VW knew there was an issue and redesigned that part. For those who don't know when this part goes out you can not shift out of park so you have to do some tricky work and the brake lights won't come when you hit the brakes. After that was done later on I had them do an alignment, the 60,000 mile check up, and again had them check for the 5th time why the engine light is on. I got the car back and it starts making this horrible knocking noise but I didn't do anything about it. So then that dang brake light switch went out again and the warranty was gone. A girl I work with, her father works at the Affenburg service department. Well, turns out Suntrup put on a recalled part after telling me that they put the new part on. The knocking noise was my catalitic converter that was messed up and the engine light that by this time had been checked 6 times by Suntrup was the engine coolant temp. sensor. So now I just go to Affenburg. I also made Suntrup make all repairs for free expect the catalitic converter as it was still under warranty. So I had them do $2,000 worth of repairs for free and also filed a complaint against Suntrup with VW. I had management from Suntrup call me after that but didn't return their calls because my car was fixed and I just wanted to be done with them. I have heard so many horror stories about them including buying a car from them. I go out of my way by at least 30 minutes just not to use them. I was wondering if anyone one else had issues with them. Also remember friends don't let friends buy or service cars at Suntrup.

I doubt if you are going to influence many people to not go to that dealership. Most of us probably live hundreds, if not thousands, of miles from St. Louis. A more effective way to spread the word about them is to complain to the BBB and/or send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. However, don't accuse them in public of something you can't prove. All that will get you is a lawsuit.

I know not everyone here lives in my area. I have gone to the BBB and I have documents to prove and the other dealership to prove my case but thanks anyway.

Filing a complaint with VW or with any manufacturer is pretty much a waste of time. The manufacturer has a relationship with their dealers not their customers. In the end the dealer/manufacturer relationship will win everytime since there is a direct monetary connection. I too live in the St Louis area, have purchased parts from Suntrup and have never had service. I can tell you that you'll get the same treatment at the two Dean's (Ballwin/Kirkwood). St Charles isn't bad and when MidAmerica was still selling VW's their service was perfection. They would fix things under the powertrain warranty that the Dean time blatently refused to honor. Think I had two CV halfshafts, oil cooler and rear main seal replaced for free as I neared 100K - which was a godsend.

The thing that REALLY pissed me off about Dean was when I had just spend $$$ on a clutch replacement on my GTI and I had to remove a ton of snow from my windows and car. The porter just scraped off enough on the driver's side opened the door and snow poured into the car and said have a nice day. Meantime one of the incredibly overfed Dean boys just mulled around the lot watching me scrape off the snow. Sorry no defense for that experience.

My son has a 2001 Golf at Suntrup right now. Long story short he took i

in a year ago complaining about the transmission slamming into gear They informed him that he had hit something and the "crushable gaskets where damage and the transmission was leaking. He paid to repair it bu refused to pay the $200 for a new pan. The transmissions 3rd gear wen out completely a month ago and the car has 52000 miles on it so V would not do a godwill warranty. Suntrup told him to make an insuranc claim under his collision because the repair receipt showed that th gaskets had been crushed and that meant he had hit something. Stat Farms adjuster went there and took picutres and told him that there wa NO damage to the pan and they wouldn't cover it under collision. My so went back and they put it up on the rack (first time this time it ha been in) and admitted that the pan was fine and though the servic advisor wouldn't admit it the mechanic standing there agreed that sinc the pan showed no damage then the gaskets could not have been crushed. My question to you is how did you get Suntrup to pay anything shy o taking them to court, they still have not admitted any wrong doing i this although, at the very least, if he didn't hit something the repai a year ago should have been covered under the warranty that was i affect at that time
