Use 15w-40 Chevron Delo on other deisels. What is the advisability in using on a 02 TDI ? Concerned more about the viscosity. It is a synthetic and meets ( exceeds ) all the standards.

What viscosity does your owner's manual call for? My manual says 5W40. It's winter here and I sure would not want to use 15W40.
When it is cold, your engine has a problem pumping the oil to where it should be and just moving with all that thick oil. When cold 15W is thicker than 5W and it means the oil will get to where it needs quicker and the engine will be able to move easier. Once the engine is up to normal operating temperature, both oils perform the same.
Why do you want 15W40? I suspect that is not what WV calls for.
Yes, use exactly what is called for. Your engine is sensitive to oil. The turbo needs it. Make sure it meets the specifications,

Well, I don't have a diesel, but I do use 15W40 non-synthetic oil in my car all year long, which. is an '88 Cabbie with the 1.8 liter 8 valve gasoline engine. It has over 250,000 miles on the odometer, and although it now has new mains and new connecting rod bearings, my mechanic says I should use the heavier oil throughout the year, even during the winter season. I live in central Ohio, and today the temperature ranged from 8 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. It starts and runs just fine.
