NP-208 Transfer Case HELP!!

Had a clunking sound in my driveline downshifting from 2nd to 1st it turned out that I have a 1 ton pinion youke and I put in the wrong universal joint; which was a little smaller and it allowed for some play; causing this "clunk". Anyway I got the right u-joint and it seemed to quiet it down some, but it is still there somewhat. The truck just jerks and continues to decelerate, making a banging noise. The mechanic I took it to said that my transfer case chain might be loose. Being a 208 I think this is gear driven and not bands...... anyway I was just wondering what I should expect paying for them to tighten the chain up a bit. I don't know of any other symptoms which would help in determining if it is indeed the chain or not; so ANY input is appreciated. I hope it doesn't cost that much, so if anyone has any ideas, PLEASE let me know ... it is an 87 K-5 Blazer 350 TBI NP-208 transfer case w/ Yukon 4:56 gearing. 700R-4 auto trans as well....THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS!!

Rob,

Itsa chain and it ain't adjustable. In fact it may be something else causing that noise altogether-like a bum ujoint in the front driveshaft or worn splines in the slip yokes. Hang in there.
