2001 Durango throttles high/low

Whats up with these Dodges? Man, my Mustangs have never been like this. They just died. Anyway, both my 93 2.5L Shadow ES and 2001 Durango 4.7 have idle problems.

The Shadow, I can live with. I am replacing the speed sensor as time permits. If that doesn't work I give up on it. I have replaced the AIS, checked and replaced several vacuum lines, cleaned the filter/breather real well. Everything suggested here in this group, I THINK.

The Durango will idle high, than low to normal and back to high all in about 3-5 seconds period of time. A/C on or not, it does not matter. It has close to 100K, so maybe some tuneup items are in order.

Any other ideas?

TIA, Shane

Clean the throttle body and the throttle plate too. A rag soaked in carb cleaner is a good way to go.

What year Durango? Any codes set (TPS, MAP, etc)? If it almost stalls and then idles high, it might have a dirty throttle body as well and the high idle is just a result of the engine nearly stalling and the computer fighting to keep it running. Then it'll try to idle down again, it almost stalls, cycle repeats.
