91 B250 conv van- AC issues

Team;

122,000 miles, 5.2L

Van has non factory, Atwood, rear air. Converted to R134 now running Duracool. Low side 40 psi, high side 150 psi.

Front and rear air ice cold on highway, but idling in traffic the cold output falls off quickly. Still cool-ish.

Suggestions?

Sounds like the nature of r134 .. you won't get the same amount of cooling with the r134 until you are at speed without increasing the size of your system. r12 is superior..

No 134. It is gone and now Duracool is in it's place. I still need an explanation as to why the cooling falls off in traffic.

Reduced airflow over the condenser will reduce cooling capability and if this unit is driven from the engine, the reduced compressor speed will also reduce cooling. I would look at the Atwood unit and see if it has a cooling fan on the roof mounted unit and make sure that it is still functional.

This is true, also you typically should see a 5 or 6 to one high to low side pressure differentail which he does not appear to have which could be from a weak compressor or the condensor not cooling it enough before expansion. It also might be slightly overcharged as well.
