Used navagation dvd

I just bought a used 2001 LS430 and would like to upgrade the navagation dvd. I have been told by Lexus parts and Sevice Advisor that a updated "USED" dvd will not work. It has to be new. I see a lot of used one on sale on eBay. Will they work, or is Lexus correct? If someone out there has bought a used one and made it work, I sure would like to hear from them. Thanks

A used one will work, but you need to get the updated disk that was meant for your 2001 vehicle, which I don't know which generation is in that year vehicle.

I have a 2001 LS as well and updated my DVD via ebay. In fact, the one I have now in my system is a backup copy of the original, so yes you can certainly use a "used" one. Your system will know no difference.

However, as Bob mentioned above, you MUST get the right generation of DVD (GEN2 or GEN3). The newer generation DVD's (for vehicles manufactured after 2001), will NOT work on our DVD units.
