My 2004 Focus TDCi just ticked over the 60,000 miles mark at the weekend and I noticed the engine warning light is illuminated. Is it telling me its time for a 60,000 mile service? or is it coincidental and there is an engine fault?
Thanks

They don't have a service indicator, so it must have a problem. get the codes read and fix it.
Is this a Euro 4 engine ? If so, the warning lamp is on to say that you need the particulate trap flushing / replacing...
Tim.
Using Dealer Test Mode (holding trip reset for 5 seconds while turning ignition on) then using trip reset button to cycle to dtc the odometer display shows "none" presumably meaning no trouble code present yet the engine warning light is illuminated when the engine is running. Any ideas?
Thanks
The dashboard test mode only gives a limited subset of codes; primarily those relating to the dash and instruments.
As Mr Cheerful has said, you need to get the codes read either by a dealer, an independent garage, or by buying or borrowing a code reader yourself.
As the car is a 2004, it may still be within warranty. Even if just over three years old, I would still approach the dealer in the first instance.
Chris
How long do you need to disconnect the battery for to reset the ECU? Maybe the engine warning light trigger was a random noise pulse. If its still on after the reset will take it to a dealer.
Thanks
At least 0.001 seconds longer than it takes for the radio to forget its code.
Andrew
Ford use a doping system to meet euro 4,so chances are the bottle is needing refilled, which IIRC is designed to last around 60k.
I read the bulletin about it a few months ago, but not entirely sure when it was introduced.
The message from "Andrew Morton" contains these words:
Which, coincidentally, is the interval between the lights going from red to red and amber and the taxi behind you tooting his horn.
Correcty me if I am wrong, but doesnt the 1.6 PSA use the trap, and the 2.0 use the adblue dope?
Tim..
Couldn't honestly tell you! Been a few months since I read the stuff, and I'm not too concerned about learning the ins and outs of the system until I've actually got to sort them. All I can remember is the doping bottle feeds into the main fuel tank (it's not an injection system like adblue), and I'm pretty sure they still have traps fitted.
Haynes Focus TDCi manual doesn't list particulate or trap in the index. Is the particulate trap something I can check myself? Is it difficult to get at / find / check / flush out / refill ? Where is it located ?
Thanks
