Mondeo Air conditioning top-up

Anyone know where the low compression conector is for A/C refridgerant top-up?

Car is 2000 diesel.

I can see the high compression connector, but no sign of the low compression connector. Maybe it's behind the splash guards in the wheel arch?

Hi.

If it's a Mk 3, then ISTR there could be a problem with these, that one of the aircon pipes runs along side a wire, which vibrates when the engine's running, which then wears a hole in the pipe.

If this is the case, a topup won't do you much good, because it'll just all leak out again.

Don't worry too much about it, the aircon specialist you use to do the refill will know where it is.

Thanks for the information guys.

For the last year or so I've tended to top my own a/c up - I have a pressure gauge and R-134a gas (ebay or Halfords). So far I've topped up my 523i, a neighbour's Astra, and replaced my daughter's condensor on her Daewoo Lanos - all without problems. Another neighbour has a Mondeo which is working fine, but we couldn't see the low compression valve to check the pressure.

Anybody aware of hidden problems of DIY top-ups? For example I didn't evacuate the Lanos a/c after fitting the new condensor and it seems to work fine? I searched the web for advice but the closest I found was someone saying the a/c SHOULD be evacuated rather than MUST.

Cheers

Ian

No hidden problems, but several fairly obvious ones, for example the top ups don't add any oil, and how do you know how much oil was removed from the system with the old condenser you replaced? What is the cost of a replacement compressor when it seizes, compared to the cost of a professional refill?

The one I got from Halfords says it does - and to keep shaking it while filling.

Does it say what kind of oil?

Wouldn't be snake oil perchance would it?
