306 Air Conditioning

Apr 26, 2004 6 Replies

In my Haynes manual for my 1997 D Turbo 306, It states you can check the air conditioning by looking at the "Air conditioning system drier bottle sight glass"

apparently this has a sight glass and humidity indicator

the only problem is i cant find it ..

The manual says it is located in the front right hand corner of the engine compartment. Does anyone else know were it is located ?

Did they put this on all models ?

Have a look for a plain circular cannister down beside the washer filler cap. Unfortunately there are no indicators on this type, so you'll need to go to an air-con specialist to check it.

Both my 306 and a friend's, (98 models) come with this type, so I assume it is standard on all models around that age.

Had the Air Con guy out today, re gassed it etc, He said they only put them on the earlier models. Its all working now anyway :)

When I turn my air conditioning on the dashboard red STOP light comes on, anyone any ideas before I take it to the garage? Martin Emmott

The guy who did mine said he would do a regas for £40 but he did all diagnostic stuff, put dye in etc, because i didnt know the history of the car as there might be leaks this cost £70.

I phoned the AA they wanted about £65 for a regas and another local garage wanted £70 + Vat.

I've heard someone say that his stop light came on when one of the radiator fans was jammed. Get someone to press the air con button while you're outside the front of the car. Make sure they both spin. You should be able to see them below the bumper.
