Peugeot 306 Locking Problem

I'm about to buy a Peugeot 306, 1993 vintage.

It has an intermittant locking problem, as in sometimes you lock the doors via the drivers door, and the locks unlock themselves straightaway, as if a door isn't shut properly etc.

Someone else I know used to have a similar problem with the 306 he had at the time, so I presume something is worn out like maybe whatever switching is on the back of the door lock, that triggers the central locking for the rest of the car - any ideas, as this seems to be a common 306 problem.

TIA

The central locking part of the wiring loom is susceptible to damage in the door jambs due to the everyday movement of opening and closing the doors. Eventually a wire breaks. A-pillar where the wires are out in the wild on their way to the drivers door is the first place I'd look.

Also check the lock linkage rod ends for play and the pins for stiffness. If there's a bit of play and/or there's some stiffness somewhere, the system thinks that one of the doors isn't locked so unlocks all the others.

I'm sure its nothing a quick blast of a soldering iron or WD40 wouldn't fix. (c:

Ah yes... now I remember - my last 306 had problems with the locking, of a different nature.

Worst case scenario for now, (or at least when I pick it up later this week), I'll find the fuse that for the central locking, and disconnect it.

Ta anyway. :-)

The passenger door or the boot probably isn't locking. When it does it again look at the passenger door button to see if it moves, if not then the problem is in that circuit.

My 306 would do it when the car was very hot (as in parked in the sun) all other times it was fine. Removing the fuse was no good as it affected too many other circuits, however just pulling the plug out of the controller was a quick job in hot weather. Mine was the estate with the controller under the folding rear seat.
