3000GT engine warning light

The engine warning light comes on intermittently on my 1991 3000GT SL. I did a fault diagnosis as described in the service manual and found malfunction code 14 for the throttle position sensor.

I did a futher check of the throttle position sensor and the idle position switch but both components seem to be working OK. Not sure where to go from here. The fault is intermittent and when it occurs the automatic shifting becomes jerky. Works OK when the engine is cold but shows fault only when engine is warm.

Should I assume that the throttle position sensor is faulty and replace it anyway? I have no idea how much it costs.

Many thanks

The Sensor can still have a fault do you have a MULTI METER if you do then I am sure you will be able to check its setting and verify that it is bad or if it is good. look in the service manual for spec's

Thanks, I checked TPS with a multimeter and it does check out as specified in the service manual. However, the symptoms are intermittent so I'm not sure if it could be bad some of the time. I read somewhere that the TPS might have become noisy and I'm not sure if I could see that with a multimeter. The car has done more than

100K.

I read somewhere that effects of a faulty TPS could be far reach>The Sensor can still have a fault do you have a MULTI METER if you do then

How is your battery and the alternator? Are all the computer connections clean and tight? All grounds good? The multitude of symptoms you now describe sound to me like a computer power or possibly a corrosion problem.

Sounds as simple as some grounding issues to me, ground the trans and engine and .....heck, just buy one of the grounding kits, they really do work and cure a lot of problems...especially "ghost" trouble codes. TG

Glad to hear this seems to have been a simple problem and that you think you have it fixed. These are the best types of problems to have....
