PROGRAMMING FACTORY MUSTANG KEY FOB HELP

I just purchased a low mileage 95 Mustang from the original owner. They had all the service records, window sticker, etc...... The only problem is they lost the 2 original KEY FOBS. They bought a new one, but never programmed it. How do I do this? It is a OEM Ford Key FOB, but the local Ford dealer will not tell me, but said they will do it for $$$$$$$. I would appreciate the details on how to do this. Thanks, Barbara

From the '97 Ford service manual (sorry, it's as close to '95 as I get) One note... On my '97 convertible, the connector to jump was in the location mentioned below (two-pin connector next to the remote keyless entry module. Remove LH luggage compartment trim panel in the trunk to reach the connector)...but some have told me that in coupes, it may be under the dash.

Programming, Electronic Door Lock Control System

Note: The remote keyless entry module erases all previous keyless entry remote transmitters from memory when thekeyless entry remote transmitters are programmed or reprogrammed. The remote keyless entry module can store up to fourkeyless entry remote transmitters in memory. All keyless entry remote transmitters must be programmed (reprogrammed) at the same time.

To program (or reprogram) keyless entry remote transmitter into the remote keyless entry module, perform the following steps:

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC position and momentarily short the two terminals of the Program Connector (two-pin connector next to the remote keyless entry module. Remove LH luggage compartment trim panel in the trunk to reach the connector). Both doors should lock and then unlock. Remove shorting pin.
  2. Press any button on keyless entry remote transmitter. All front doors should lock and then unlock to verify that keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.
  3. If door locks do not respond, press button again (up to three times maximum with the same keyless entry remote transmitter).
  4. Repeat Step 2 to program additional keyless entry remote transmitters into the remote keyless entry module (up to a maximum of four keyless entry remote transmitters).
  5. Turn ignition switch OFF. Both doors should lock and then unlock.
  6. Check operation.

yeah I got a brand new remote key fob off ebay for I think $7 shipped to my door. The guy I bought it from even sent instructions on how to program it to my car (took all of 5 minutes, including time it took to find the remote reciever unit in the trunk)

On my 94 GT, you have to go into the trunk and pull back the liner on the driver's side to access the remote receiver. put your key in the ignition and put it to the accessory position, then go to the receiver and short the two metal pins with a screwdriver or something metal. The doors will lock and unlock. then press any button on the key fob, and the door locks will cycle again. If you have more than one remote, do the same for each remote until they're all programmed (you can do up to I think 4 remotes at a time... just short the pins on the receiver, then press a button on each key fob once to program each one to the car)

I forgot to mention that you must turn the ignition to the off position to end programming mode - the locks should cycle one last time when you do this.

These instructions are for a "type 3" remote fob with 4 buttons - lock, unlock, trunk, and panic. For instructions on other fob types, go here
