battery acid and paint

i have a wrangler and it was storming so i threw a top over it. i used an old car battery to hold it down. when i went out the next day it looked like the battery was leaking and now theres a line of what i am guessing is battery acid because it wont come off. when i scratch it off the paint comes with it. is there anything i can do to remove it and not ruin the paint?

Not sure why you are posting this on a Studebaker newsgroup, but, in technical terms, friend, you are hooped. Wash the vehicle off with baking soda and water to neutralize any remaining acid; then start saving up for a paint job. And a shift key.
