Battery acid paint/metal damage underneath battery

Took my Lark to my good local Chevy dealer for a quickie oil change Friday a.m. and they told me it needed a new battery. I did think it had been sounding a little weaker on start-up recently. Anyway, told them to put one in since they had one in the right size. When they took the old one out it had been leaking and my pretty Ermine White Deltron paint under it is a waste (LOL!) They put battery-acid neutralizer on the "shelf" to help stop the damage, then installed the new battery so I could get going. The car was used in a wedding the next day (yesterday and last night).

The one parts dept. guy who was over checking it out (I know him from my being a customer) suggested I sand, then paint the area with this type of paint which is supposed to somehow be able to convert rusty metal into stronger metal? Sounds ridiculous I know, but on the other hand it seems to me I've heard of something like this over the years! Anybody ever tried it, with what results, and what's it called? A quick look underneath the car didn't show any rust-through there, although it's fairly well-undercoated under there.

Also, and I know under the battery no one will even know, but can anyone suggest a close-to-Ermine White color I can buy fairly cheaply to brush or spray on over whatever "base coat" I use? (My skills are limited!)

Thanks, Bill Pressler Kent, OH '63 Lark Daytona Skytop R1

They can match anything and put it in a spray can in a basecoat/clearcoat system. I've had really good luck with them. You can even send them your paint codes and they can match it that way too.

What he said. they have a white POR 15. If you don't like the color, use the tiecoat primer, then paint over that with your preferred color

How do they match Studebaker colors? They don't list Studebaker. I would sure like to get a small touch up spray can for my '64 Daytona (Bordeaux Red). Paul Johnson

I should have the Paint Codes from my 64 Daytona. The body shop had the original codes and had them made in the newer paint formula.

Send them an email and tell them everything you know. If you have the Studebaker paint code, tell them that. Aside from all of that, if you send them a piece they can color match that (like the gas cap).

Paul, Any good body shop mixes their own paint. Try a local... they'll spectrograph your car. I don't know what the possibilities are for such a small amount though. You can still get those small job, empty aerosol rigs from NAPA, where you add your color, then shoot.
