Replacement thermal type fan clutch for 63 Avanti

Just over a year ago, I replaced the original thermal fan clutch with a non-thermal type from one of our vendors. At the time it seemed that the only options were this non-thermal replacement, or to get a thermal type (which I'd prefer) for a Brand X and try to machine the pilot hole to fit an Avanti water pump.

Now after very limited use my replacement clutch has started to leak fluid, so thought I'd see if anyone is aware of new thermal replacements or other ways to "skin this cat". Peter Sant from the Avanti group apparently had an adapter made for his car a few years ago so a more common thermal clutch could be used. I've also e-mailed him to see how it worked out for him.

Many thanks in advance, Chris Collins, Atlanta 1963 Avanti R2

let us know how it works out; I am still not aware of a bolt on thermostatic type clutch for a Stude. Someone gave me a Brand-X interchange once, but when I tried to track it down, I found that it was out of production. (don't even remember what car it was, Cadillac maybe?)

Are the clutches mounted straight to the water pump or is there a spacer between the pump and clutch? If there is a spacer why could you not machine the spacer down to fit one of the thermostatic clutches.

On a lark/hawk there is no spacer. I believe it is the same on an Avanti but am not sure.

Usually, there ain't 'nuff room for a spacer anyway.

BTW, didn't the thermostatic drives come after the Studebaker era?
