measuring a new production set laying on their side in my garage, i get 50 inches from center to center.

If they are arched differently the measurements will be different. 2" does not sound like much. Once the weight of the car is on them, there may be little difference in height. If they sit too high after a break in period, take them to a spring shop and have them rearched.
