'87 Chrysler 2.2l Turbo

Question, does anyone know, or can anyone direct me to where I might find out what RWD transmissions will bolt up to a Chrysler 2.2l Turbo motor? I have a good strong motor (from a '87 New Yorker) that I want to put into a RWD application. Looking at both automatic or standard (auto prefered) I have read that both the 2.2l and 2.5l motors are the same block, so any vehicles that had this motor in them, that are RWD would be good to know about. Then I can go looking for parts :)

Thanks! ~Brian

What an interesting question. There were no RWD transmissions manufactured to bolt to this engine. The 2.5 was used in certain Dakotas as a base engine, but it was a different block for RWD vs. FWD.

Not in '87, they're not. The common block didn't come along til '89.

:( Well that is some what disappointing to find out. I guess I was wrong to assume that it would have been used in North-South RWD application.

If anyone has any suggestions for a transmission that would be really close to fitting I would love the ideas. Anyone know if they keep that same bell housing bolt pattern when they went to the 2.5l for the Dakotas?

I know everyone is going to laugh at me... but the 2.2l turbo would be lots of fun in my Suzuki LJ80 :)

Thanks for the info DS

I saw a 360 in a Suzuki over Labor Day. It's gotta be fun.
