caliper pistons

I have some light corrosion on my rear Nissan Altima pistons. I cleaned them up with 600/1200 wet/dry paper, flushed everything with brake fluid and they seem to work fine. Should I be concerned about replacing them in the near future?

We used to polish a lot of them with crocus cloth and kerosene. We would chuck them into a lathe and they would come out sparkling. Never used sandpaper as such.

And never had a failure.

In later years, some really crappo pistons were used which were composite. The only safe way to deal with them, as far as I know, was by replacement.

These look like solid stainless steel as I filed a 'deep' groove and the color did not change. They retract about 80% into the piston bore.

I would start by replacing the brake fluid. Pistons rust because of the water in the brake fluid. If they are holding pressure, I would not worry about them.
