Jeep Cherokee electrical shut down

In reading many other postings, all the little things may be adding up...

92 Jeep Cherokee. 4.0 Fuel Injected, Straight 6. 187K Miles. Living in the Desert. Knocks at start up, but quietes down by 150 degrees, or I can turn off the engine and restart it and it is quiet. Intermittent Rough Idle in reverse or forward, but not in nuetral or park. Intermittent (but getting more frequent) cut out anywhere from 25-65 mph. Driving along just fine and the rpm drops to zero, (radio, etc are fine), then immediatley return. Shop says no codes. Possibly a power booster leak on hard brake.

Any ideas?

They have a CPS that is prone to a dirty connection on the plug. The CPS is located on the drivers side bell housing. Some plugs are on top of the manifold, some are over by the dipstick. A spray with an electronic contact cleaner works well on them. Same goes for the two plugs on the throttle body. The TPS gets dirty and the idle can act strange or the idle air control can get dirty inside the throttle body.

There is a wire mesh strap from the rear of the head tot he firewall that can cause strange stalls when it's going bad too.
