Taking a battery out

I have a 96 Subaru. Is there anything that has to be reset if I remove the battery? I mean, besides the radio buttons? And the clock?

With newer cars, is there anything that needs to be reset? I know they have computers but is all that stuff automatic when you power back up?

TIA

On some cars disconnecting the battery will cause a low idle condition if the throttle body is dirty. If you run into this problem just clean the throttle body and it will idle normal again.

You might need to enter a passcode into your radio.

Hook up a 9v battery to the cigarette lighter before you remove the car battery. Go to Radio Shack and get a lighter plug and wire it up. Center tip is +. 9v isn't enough to light lights and so on, but it is enough to power the various computers and keep their memory, radio presets and all that.

I think auto parts stores sell those 9 volt battery thingys for when you remove the car battery. You can easily make your own from a snap on clip (for 9 volt battery) and a car cigarette lighter. cuhulin

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if I was asking a dumb question or not. I guess not. ;-)

I'll have to check on one of those 9v thingys.
