Changing head gasket

I am about to change head gasket on my LJ70 2,4 NA diesel. I have seen that the bolts are supposed to be replaced when the head has been taken off. These bolts are quite difficult to find here in Norway and they are expensive too. Do you replace those bolts or are the old ones reused?

Toyota uses what are called "plastic region" head bolts. When tightened to the specified torque, they stretch to help maintain the proper pressure on the head gasket. In some applications, the heat bolts may be re-used once in addition to the factory installation, and in others, new bolts must be re-used. If the repair manual specifies new bolts, then I would use them to reduce the possibility of head gasket leaks in the future.

You have to ask the parts counter guy, especially with a diesel that has much higher stresses on the head bolts from the compression. Some are "torque to yield" bolts and do need to be replaced every time - try reusing them, and one or two are liable to snap off.

mightbe cheaper, even after shipping and customs from the USA. Most oftheir parts are purchased from Toyota or their OEM suppliers, no junk. -->--
