how high do you jack up the bug to remove the engine ? any known distance from the oil plate to the floor? I have one floor jack and do not want to get stuck in an odd position.

I just pulled my engine. THe bug is on ramps, and the rear apron (measured in the middle) is 2ft off the ground. At this height you can slide it out *from the side* !! (Not from the back).
How I do it:
- Place jack with a piece of 2x4 under the pan.
- Loosen engine
- Wiggle it back until it is free
- Very slowly lower jack while making sure nothing gets caught, move engine if needed
- I have 2 wooden blocks tha I put under the heaterboxes, this allows me to remove the jack.
- Lift engine on one side, remove one block
- Lift engine on other side, remove second block
- Pull engine from underneath the car sideways, while grimassing because of the horrible screeching noise of the heaterboxes on the concrete floor ;-)

Maybe this will help, teh engine will be sitting on teh floor instead of on the jack, so you'll be able to jack teh car up just enough and just pull the engine out when there's enough clearance. My way you don't need to jack the car as high either.
I'm not gonna touch that one :)

I just pulled my engine ('71 super) last weekend and put in a 2275 yesterday.
The problems I encountered were:
I was using an ATV jack instead of a normal jack.
