Turns out the spline center of the rear torsion tube has stripped out. We have a replacement but it's gonna be a precision welding job.
For that reason and others, he's removing the body from the pan. He thinks all the bolts are loose. It seems to jiggle.
Can somebody recommend the best way to get the body up and off? I wondered about putting 2x4s through the window sills and placing a farmer boy on either end.
Will appreciate hearing from a lazy man.
"When you want a job done right give it to a lazy man".
It isn't difficult but will take some mustle and sweat - maybe that lazy man can get you beer or snacks to stay out of the way :) You could pic the body up with a couple of people. Take the fenders and bumpers off as it makes it a lot lighter. If the heater channels and door posts (a + b pillar) are solid, you might consider taking the doors out, making it lighter yet again.
I did it using some lifts made out of some lumber:

works well, but if you have enough people around to help you lift, you may not need anything this elaborate. Being by myself I had thebody off literally in minutes (once the bolts were loose). I also needto hover the body over the frame do line up the new heaterchannels andfirewall - you may not have that need. The body is now sitting on a large dolly made out of 2*6 lumber so I can roll it around and in/out of the shop if I need extra space. It works really well and also gives it a little more height so you can work on the body easier. Having your body on casters is pretty handy, so I suggest you do something like that.
