Cast iron, chain. Full time operation from the factory.
Cast iron, gear. Part time operaton from the factory, relatively high low gear
Aluminum, chain. Part time operation. Good low gear, weakness: aluminum case.

Dana 20 - Cast iron case, gear driven, pre-'73 though.
To identify a 205 from a 203. Look at the back of the case roughly in the middle, there will be a small circular plate (~2") wide with 3 bolts holding it on. Thats a 205.
