Hi, anyone know what the computer type socket is for that is in the rear ashtray?? Cheers.

Thats your OBDII plug, its what the dealer uses to hook your car up to the diagnostic eqpt to find faults etc, also for reseting service interval indicators,

Is that on an A4 (B5 model)? If so, it will be the diagnostic socket.
You can do this yourself, too, if you have a laptop and one of these babies:
