Banjo Bolt Story (m30 -- oil spray bar)

Dec 23, 2005 2 Replies

Just had to share this story.

I had read a lot about the banjo bolts on the spray bar coming loose on the m30 engine.

I checked the service records for our car, and bmw did perform the "service" for the issue.

However, I read too much about it remaining a problem.

I found:

and ordered some (Nice guy, btw). I held on to them; and finally dropped off the car at my mechanic and asked him to adjust the valves & install the new banjo bolts.

He tried to talk me out of it; saying factory recalls are usually pretty good; and the engine ran fine/sounded good and he didn't think a valve adjust was called for. (He's not a bmw specialist; but a darn good mechanic)

I just got off the phone with him.... one of the banjo bolts was completely out.... Just sitting there....

Sometimes being paranoid is a good thing.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that everyone isn't out to get you... ;-)

OH! I know know they're out there... I hear things. Terrible things. Wicked things. The voices, oh the voices.....

How do you think I knew to do the banjo bolts & the valve adjust? The voices told me --- and they were right -- which, btw, proves that the voices are right.... Which, then, I guess, doesn't make me paranoid, just persecuted.
