BMW CD Autochanger

I took delivery of a 2000 330Ci a few days ago, but it won't play CDs ... the head unit just keeps saying No Discs. I've tried a pile of different CDs (genuine originals, all good condition, including a couple less than a month old), but none of them are recognised. When I put the caddy in, I can hear it lifting OK.

Before I start on the warranty people (wouldn't amaze me if it wasn't covered anyway), does anyone know if this is a simple problem with an easy fix? I have to admit that I haven't tried a lens cleaner, but I've never seen a dirty lens cause a unit to fail 100% before.

The car's equipped with the BMW Business ICE, if it makes any difference.

Any ideas? Please??

TIA, Jake

Did you put them in the right way?

If you took delivery a few days ago, it'll be covered.

Yup, label up!

Hope you're right re the warranty ...

Thanks for the reply.

They're pretty cool about new delivery issues, it's after you've had time to feed it peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that they start to balk at warranty service.

Your kid hasn't fed the CD any PB & J sandwiches, has he?

No, no crap in there yet! :-)

Incidentally, the car isn't under BMW warranty, it's under RAC ... I bought the car from an independant dealer specialising in Jags. I haven't had the warranty paperwork through yet, so I can't check, hence the slight nervousness! However, the ICE is all BMW kit, so I don't really see how they can refuse a claim. Mind you, since when have warranty companies operated by the usual rules of logic ... ?

It's a Used Car, well that changes things. It might not be a warranty service call. I thought you were having troubles with a new car. I don't know how they can refuse the claime either, but I'm confident they will try to find a way. Good luck ...

I suspect there is something covering the eye that reads the surface of the CDs. A business card could be in there.

Sorry, I thought I'd made it plain that it was a used car when I said I'd taken delivery of a 2000 330Ci, but hey, this is how we learn.

Doesn't look like there's any foreign bodies in there. I must admit I was thinking that there's either a problem with the autochanger itself, or the wiring between the changer and the head unit, particularly as the head unit seems to be working perfectly. Either way, the head unit doesn't think there's any discs to play ...

Many thanks for your input tho, Mr Strickland. Nice to know there's people out there prepared to help!

Cheers, Jake

It's probably me, not you.

I don't always succeed, but I never mind giving it a shot ...
