e30 325i suspension knocking

Jun 20, 2005 2 Replies

The shocks and sprints on my 1979 car have just been replaced. However on some bumps, as found on farm tracks, the suspension (still) 'knocks' - and that is when travelling quite slowly. Has anyone any suggestions please?

I'm guessing you meant 1989.

I'd suggest:

Rear subframe bushings trailing arm bushings anti-roll bar links exhaust hitting the body

If it's a higher frequency jiggling sort of noise it might be the handbrake mechanism or rear strut top mounts.

1979 was E21 but a common reason for knocking sounds on an E21 and E30 is the bushing between the top of the rear shock mounts and the body. They are fairly easy and cheap to replace.
