Rain Sensor

I am not sure if I have a rain sensor or not. In fact, I wasn't awareof them at all until a couple of rocks hit my windshield and I calledabout a quote. I called the glass repair people and they told me Iwould know if I had it because it would come on automatically when itstarted to rain. I then checked my manual and there was an asterix nextto this feature. So, I called the dealership and they said I probablydidn't have it. I mentioned that the wiper speed automatically slowswhen I am at stop lights and it isn't raining very hard. Then, thedealership said maybe I do have it. Anyways, I sure need to get mywindshield repaired and I don't want the wrong thing installed so Ijust don't know what to do. I tried pouring water on the glass but Idon't think I had the wipers in the 1 position. Does anyone know moreabout this? I drive a 2003 325i. I would really appreciate any help Ican get.

Well, if it hasn't got a rain sensor, or an automatic dipping mirror, my final guess, assuming it's not something simple like the feed for the alarm system LED, would be that it's something to do with the cars radio interior protection system. Possibly the transmitter housing. In my E39 it's in the middle of the roof, but maybe they moved it to somewhere less conspicuous on the Z3. Mike.

The conclusion which I came to is that the key/alarm receiver head is inside the mirror. But it remains pure assumption.
