Its a pre-1970 1800 or 2000. Key to it is has 4 doors. Since its in the states, I would assume its a 2000 because of the larger engine displacement. The 2000 was replaced by the 2500 and 2800, the 2800 being known as the Bavaria in the states.
Not a lot of these were brought into the states, so if the body isn't in too bad a shape, it might be worth doing some work on. Parts availability in the states could be a bit dodgy, but there are a few in Germany that might have some.
