1995 Chevy Van G20 Trans Problems

Hello, I have a 1995 Chevy Van G20 and has run beautifully ever since I bought it in 1995. Has 140K and the transmission just died. I was comming home from work and it started slipping when I pulled in the driveway. I probably should have stopped right there and not have drove it again and just taken it to the shop but I went on driving it (I went back out that same night). That was the worst thing I did, before I got home on the way back, the engine stalled and I coasted to a stop. It started back up fine but when I shifted into drive it barely would move and there was no reverse. I had to have it towed. The next day I tried it and it ran fine but then the same night it did that again and needed a tow once more. I decided to risk it and try and get it to the shop and it made it about 10 miles but did it again. Now that I have used 3 of 4 per year of my AT&T mobile assist tows in 3 days, I am in need of advice. The guy who took the trans and looked at it says that the case is shot and he went and threw the whole trans in the trash. Answer me this question: Should I buy a new trans or a new truck? My truck is a '95 with 140K, significant amount of the body rusted, and probably in need of some serious front end work. However, the engine was brand new at 100K so it has 40K on it. Needless to say, the warranty is up. Let me know what you think although I probably know the answer.

Thanks a lot, NHL

Get it painted, put in a working tranny from the junkyard, install corduroy-covered plywood panels, and sell it as low-key conversion van, driven by a nice, gray-haired grandmother, who only took it to church on Sundays.
