Greetings All, My son has a 1996 Chevy Blazer. The Service Engine Light just came on. Is there a way to read the lights without a computer? I remember you could on some models count the number of flashes of the light but I can't remember how to do it. Any help will be appreciated.
Amen to that. But you can bet your last nickel if the code popped is related to sensor "X" having an out of limits reading AZ will sure tell you ya need to replace it.
I have a 97 Blazer (and oh what a joy it hasn't been to own).
Anyway, my 'Service Engine Light' came on about a year ago. I was so fed up of pumping money into it's faults I let this one ride. Every oil change made the light go out (perhaps the guys in the workshop reset it?) but within a few hundred miles it came back on. A couple of months ago I decided to replace the gas tank cap. Although the light remained on for at least six weeks following the new cap, it has since gone out and remained out. Before it went out I also put the car through an emissions test, which it flew through with flying colors....so I'm at a loss to explain why it darn thing remained on for so long.
Incorrect......yer not at a loss....... yer at a gain.
Jest consider all the money some folks would have chunked at that eng. light to get it to go out! Hundreds.....I say hundreds of dollars....jest to get the light out..........
when you seemingly had no drivability symptoms, and were able to pass the emissions test..... "with flying colors"......!!
yer words.....not mine.
~:~ MarshMonster ~wonders where you live...that they have been approved by the Federal Gov. to ignore the fact that an illuminated ck. eng. light is an automatic FAIL on any Federal Emissions testing.....yet passed yer vehical......hmmmmm..... curious.....veeeery curious~
A hard fault will stay on as long as the ECM sees the fault. If the fault is corrected, but the computer not reset, the light will stay on x# of key cycles.
