'95 dead speedo. VSS?

Apr 29, 2004 5 Replies

Hey guys,

My fullsize '95 2wd 5speed truck has a speedo problem. The speedo and odometer both don't work. Check engine and ABS lights are on too. Does this indicate a bad VSS, for sure, or could it be another problem? I'd kinda like to know before I go out and buy one.

BTW, I pulled out the tranny sensors looking for a stripped gear, but got nothing more than gear-oil down my arm :-( No gears on those doohickies.

Thanks, Brian.

======== Most likely the sensor or connection from it to the computer. Your best bet is a VSS.

doohickies.

His best bet is to have the codes read and see why the SES light is on. With both SES and ABS lights on it sure sounds like a VSS, but I'd refrain from throwing parts at it until I had the codes read.

Doc

Thanks for the replys guys,

I figured out how to check the codes, and sure enough, it flashed a VSS problem. Next question is...being $65.00 at the dealer, $40.00 + shipping online, anyone know where the best prices online are? I you might have guessed I'm on a tight budget. Thanks again, Brian.

Thanks doc, I checked around but had to get it at the dealer. :-( Replaced it and the problem was fixed :-) So, thanks for the info, problem resolved. B.
