98 Chevy Coil Problem

Apr 22, 2004 3 Replies

I have a 98 Chevy with a 4.3 Vortec V6. I have had the coil fail 4 times in

3 years.

Currently the truck is running very rough. At night arcing can be seen from the coil body back to the laminated windings around the outside. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have had the problem for quite a while now. Narrowing the plug gap down to .023 helps a great deal. Runs great at highway speeds but idles rough. I just replaced the cap, rotor and wires with Accel components.

Thanks for any help, Mic

What brand of coil have you been using, and were all 4 coils the same brand?

No, just changed it to an Accel 9000+.
