Our son has a 99 Silverado 5.3 Ext Cab. He had a meeting with an 18 wheeler that pushed him into a guard rail. No airbags deployed. That Silverado is one tough truck because he drove away with just considerable side damage. Will the repair facility access the black box and what information will be there? He has put approximately 1800 miles on the truck since the "accident". BTW, the trucker got a ticket.

most likely not
Since the truck got the ticket, liability has been assigned. There is no reason to investigate further. Mike
The "black box" is mostly used to record data (accelerator position, G-forces, seatbelt usage) in the few seconds prior to an airbag deployment. If the airbag was not deployed, the information is erased or written over after a few ignition cycles. You won't be able to retrieve it. Glad to hear the trucker got his ticket.
