Bleeding Heating/Cooling

All,

I have a 98 GMC Jimmy with 75K miles. This is the second winter in which I don't have heat. With the heater on and no fan, I can feel hot air. When the fan is turned on, the air is cool. Last year I pumped water into the heater core and the heat was very hot. I don't think I am getting the flow to the core. All summer the truck ran fine and ran a normal temp. I saw a few articles in the past about bleeding the system. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Lisle used to make a neat funnel with a radiator cap-type fitting on it. When I did the intake gasket on my 5.7, I just snapped it on, and filled the system with a 50/50 mix of coolant/water. As soon as it got full, I started the engine. As the engine warmed, I added more of the mixture. When the thermostat opened up, it sort of "overflowed" itself then went down, as the air was purged from the system. I kept adding the mixture until full, then that was it.

I couldn't find it on the Lisle website, but maybe Napa sells something similar. Always a good tool to have on the wall when you need it.

Found the revered Lisle Funnel at Toolcraze.com, go to the cooling system section.

My advice is to backflush the heater core itself, and change your dexcool. Disconnect both heater core hoses at the engine and force water thru the hose that connects to the water pump.

Do yourself a favor and install a new rad cap too.
