Brakes on an 84 c-10

I need to find out what braking system is on my 84 chevy c-10 Scottsdale pickup truck. It originally came witha 6.2 liter diesel. I need to know If it's WITH JB1, JB3 BRAKE SYSTEM or WITH JB5, JD3, JD5 BRAKE SYSTEM.

I understand there is supposed to be a sticker under the hood or in the glove box. Neither of these stickers are there that I can see. I just see the emissions info and the VIN sticker. Neither say anything about brakes.

Can anyone tell me how to figure this out?

thanks!

Jason

Hi!

I have an 84 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6.2 and have an idea about where you might try looking for this information. For my truck a sticker with all installed equipment was placed on the inside of one of the front wheel wells. It was so dirty that at first I did not know what it was, but I rubbed all the grease and dirt off to reveal a pretty readable (if rather yellowed) list of equipment installed on my truck.

If this label still exists (mine was still pretty well stuck down) you might try to clean it off and see if it contains the info you need.

All of the printing in my glovebox sticker is worn off.

It will also be located on the left inner fender well.If it isn't there I have listed information that will help you determine what system you have.

It will be the JD series. The JB series is for light truck gas engines, JA is for passanger cars with gas engines and JD series was light and medium duty trucks with the diesel engines. On your vehicle measure the rear wheel shoes, so when you talk with the parts department you will be able to give them that information and in return they can verify which system you have. Being a 1/2 ton 2wd vehicle is more likely you have the JD3 system.
