The gaskets on the carburetor of my 55 series one Chevy truck leak. Is there some kind of gasket seal that I need to use on them to get the leaking stopped?

I've never had to use sealer on a carb. gasket. Are the screws too tight or too loose? Are the gaskets torn or brittle/cracked? Is the housing cracked?
