After spending upwards of a day and a half, burning out the motor in my angle grinder, bending the retaining spring on my air hammer, and bending a punch, we got it apart. One of the spider gears is still firmly attached to the pin. Turns out the axles didn't have C clips after all, they are held in by 4 bolts out by the brake shoes. DOH!
