My '83 S-10 Blazer, 2.8L V-6, carbuereted, refused to start this morning. After doing a quick check, I found that I have no spark. Since it got me home just fine the last time I drove it, I'm a bit baffled as to what went bad while it was sitting in my driveway. I'm thinking maybe the computer crapped out when I went to start it today... anybody got any ideas? Also, where IS the computer in that thang? A friend of mine said it's probably a little boomerang-shaped plastic thing under the distributor cap... does this sound like a likely suspect?
Your '83 prolly doesn't have an "ECM". That 'boomerang shaped plastic thing under the dist. cap', if not referring to the rotor, would be your ignition module. Take it to autozone and they'll test it for ya.

What's funny, is I did a google search on him a few months back to see where he ran off to. He had been hanging out in a group on home theater equipment, and appointed himself as the resident expert. His stay there was short lived. I just now checked again, and apparently he was the resident expert of alt.energy.homepower recently as well, but appears to have been run out of that group too. His posting style hasn't changed... he shows up in a group, informs everyone that he knows everything and they don't know squat, then disappears in a huff when he starts getting shouted down. You'd think he'd have figured it out by now...

That sounds like the easiest place to start. Since the car was running fine the last time I had it out, I figured it probably blew when I cranked it over to start it this morning. I just wasn't sure how much electronic crap they put in those things back in '83, but that's relatively easy to get to. I have an Autozone nearby, but didn't realize they could (or would) test it for me.
I agree, I would have thought that he had the ability to learn by his mistakes...but I guess not. I think that he is now also an "engineer". Man, that guy wears a lot of different hats.
His (or his wife's) computer business web page seems to be in much better shape these days. At least there are a lot of positive comments from customer's, but they all seem to be directed towards his wife.
Oh yeah....welcome back for however long or short you manage to stick around for.

Here are a few little g00gle gems from that Darn Deadwin...
The Deanster, in alt.energy.homepower:
"I am an ME. Have been since late '60s. To insert a comment in to your verbal fist fight, I work work for a large transportation system ."
"Gee Nick, I would say you don't have a clue about thermal mass."
"Wrong! They are all stainless steel. You suggested copper which is laughable. No one with any knowledge of the subject would do so. Not unless they were trying to murder themselves and their families. Good-bye!"
"Most dogs have owners who are smart enough to set the thermostat correctly. In case you don't know, that would be "low" on the control, just enough to take the chill off dog's bed."
The Deanster in alt.home-theater.misc:
"You are a dufus pious snob. How dare you tell him "But once your ears mature a little bit and you get some age on you, you'll get a better amp ...".
"Local economy my ass. Nearly everything sold in mom & pop stores is NOT purchased locally. So when you say "local economy" you really mean "my pocket". That makes you a hypocrite."
That boy just excreets charm everywhere he goes, doesn't he? Heh-heh...
Well didn't you just fall off the face of the earth for half a year! How ya been man? Easy on KJ, he seems to be a nice kid...............he came around just a few weeks back so he has no idea who you are and why it would be in his best interest NOT to piss you off.
