New 2005 Silverado: Rustproofing?

Aug 02, 2005 5 Replies

I am the proud owner of a 2005 K2500HD Crew Long bed Duramax. Now the question is weather to have it rustproofed.

There is fairly heavy salt use in this area of Central NY.

My '91 K2500HD was not rustproofed. I had the cab corners replaced a few years ago, but it has held up pretty well.

My '90 Mazda MPV was rustproofed, but Ziebart only warrantied it for 7 years. I has a bunch of rust work done around 2000, by the time I sold it it had rusted through in several places.

The manual for my Silverado indicates that GM doesn't recommend either way.

Thanks.

Jeff

Good luck finding a parking spot.

My '78 Suburban was rustproofed at the dealership when brand new. It started showing body cancer after ten years.

My '92 ext cab Silverado was not rustproofed. It started showing body cancer after 13 years.

They use some salt in the winter here in MD, and when it warms up, I hose off the undercarriage.

You decide.

Oil spray...oil spray...oil spray I live in Southern Ontario and have owned a 91 GMC 1/2 ton since new. 14 years old and no rust. Yes it's messy, but I think it's worth the mess. Kevin

How about running over an Italian?
