Tahoe dies on freeway.

Hi all;

Just fishing for some ideas.

We were heading home on the 14 freeway from LA to the high desert when with out warning the engine quit.

Though going up hill during rush hour in the car pool lane, I was able to get to the right shoulder. The engine will start and run roughly for about 5 seconds and then quit.

The dealer says it's probably the fuel pump and/or the fuel injectors. $800 to replace the fuel pump. $270 to clean the injectors and replace the fuel filter.

Does this pricing sound right?

Just wondering.

Thanks

Sounds high...What year is it? How many miles? What dealer are you talking about? 3Way?

Sounds awful high to me.

I have a '97 Tahoe. I had the fuel pump and fuel filter changed for $120.00 with a lifetime warranty on the pump. And this was at my local Chevy Dealer.

I called my ocal chevy parts department to order the pump and put it on myself - it was only $65.00. And fuel filter: $24.95.

Oops, forgot that stuff. Year 2000.5 (New Body) Miles 138120 Dealer Rally in Palmdale.

Thanks. Craig.

dirty injectors wont make it die while going down the road. could be a problem with the pump. $800 for the pump sounds high. I would call their parts department and ask them for a price on it. Then I would call the service department and ask how many hours to change it and how much for the pump. Would be interesting to see what the service dept says.

Does it start and run again:

After that incident?

I would be hard pressed to agree on the pump and dirty injectors, especially at $800.00 for that pump!

I would lean more towards a crank position sensor, that would make the pump not run, and the injectors not trigger. If it's intermittent, it would make the pump and injectors run sporadically, and cause those parts to look worn/

Just my devalued $0.02

Hi again;

Well I got our 2000.5 Tahoe back from the dealer last night. $890.58 was the cost of a fuel pump, filter, tax and labor.

Thanks to all that replied!
