Tail Shaft Housing Leaking?

I brought my truck in to have the oil change at the local dealership ($9.95 oil change special) and I was told that I have a Tail Shaft Housing Leaking.

Exactly what is that?

They wanted to charge me $140.00 to fix it.

They just said Tail Shaft Housing Leaking.

I think they are trying to make up for the $9.99 oil change.

I'm seeing a LOT of leaking tailshaft seals, BUT the bushing is also gone, allowing the yoke to destroy a new seal

both seal AND bushing must be replaced

Exactly what is that?

not hard if you have the appropriate driver

can you take it off and run it to a nearby transmission shop ?

call first, they may not like dropping something just to do that little job, but if you could drop it off in the morning (along with a dozen donuts) and pick it up in the evening, they'd probably do it for little or nothing...........

Do they show you the problem? Just FYI: It is usually the seal that leaks, which like Kevin said, it is very easy to change and costs about $10 for the part. Chances are you are right, they are wanting to make up for the $9.99 oil change, they had to find *something* wrong. Does it leave drips on the driveway. Hell, crawl under it and see if its wet at the back of the transmission.

crawl under there while the trucks "warm".....

(warm is yer friend) (hot is yer enemy)

look around.........

go ahead...i'll wait.......... . . . . . . . . . what did you see?

every where?

okay..... here's what i want you to do.

go back under there with a spray can of some kind of really wet, fast evaporating, alchol derivative based, cleaning solution........put the little straw, that's stuck to the side of the can, into the spray tip........

then soak that sucker down like it was dry mule need'n a bath..........

be carefull not to get none in yer eyeball..... but if you do...jest close yer eye like you wuz try'n to squeeze puss out it with the lids only... then press the palm of yer against it good and tight.........and suffer through it....

or.... you could jump up and down, scream'n like a stuck pig......

either way it's still gonna be funny.

now..back to the leak.....

when you have it cleaned up ...and the CARB CLEANER has evaporated...leaving the case nice and dry...and clean.........take this can of gray primer and spray the whole tranny down with it ....like you wuz wishing it was a new tranny and you wuzn't having to go through all this crap.......

now....is the paint dry yet...

crank it up....make sure the tranny's full of fluid.....and if it ain't...oh well...don't go putting none in it now and letting it drip down the tube........making you tell me it's the filler tube boot....

take it down the road at about 35mph...for about a mile roundtrip.....and crawl yerself back under and find the leak...or LEAKS.

don't want no come-backs on a fluid leak either....so get it all the first time.

scrib abell ~~figures we gonna end up spending about $35....that's enough fer a bottle of Crown too~~

. .

the post will self-destruct.....

before the leak gits fixed
