And don't even get me started on the innumerable ways the CHP squanders those funds on "law enforcement" (asking to see if your registration is current when they pull you over and all that) or CalTrans and its loony "road improvements". What a crock *that* all is.

I have offen thought that the DMV is out of control. They make you think that the roads belong to them personaly and not the people of NC. But then the DMV dose what they are told to do by the insurance companys. I do know that the millions that they collect from us are not being used to keep the roads passable, and build new bridges where needed. I think it was better living in the

60 - 70 - and 80's. you didn't have to worry about braking the governments nose if you turned a corner to sharp. The car tax is a real sore spot with me to. They charge you a book price, that they made up, and if you don't like it you have to tow the car around to 2 dealers and get it apprised and they still don't have to accept it. I think we work for them, they realy have us all by the short hairs.

You're blaming the wrong entity, DMV merely acts as an agent and collects the "use tax" for the Board of Equalization, blame them.

That's been going on for years, as long as the claimed sale price is within reason. If DMV disagrees with the value of the car they have authority to require appraisal (at your expense) so keep it within reason. John
