Stratus Engine Swap?

Question

I have a '95 Stratus with 186,000 miles and a very tired 2.0L coupled to a 5-speed.

Anyone know how much of a hassel it would be to put a 2.4L in its place while keeping the 5-speed? This combo wasn't offered when I bought the car back in '95, but sure would be a lot more fun than the

2.0.

I'm debating between making a project car or donating it to the Kidney Foundation.

If it wasnt offered before......how are you gonna get the engine controllerthat will make the 2.4 run??

ED-Bolt pattern's the same, as are the engine mounts, etc. The sticking pointwould be the engine control module. The 2.0 module wouldn't happily run a2.4, but a module for a 2.4 with automatic transmission would be less thanhappy running in front of a manual. If I had to pick, I'd use a 2.4/automodule and deal symptomatically with whatever effects might show up.Of course, there are bound to be 2.4 litre engines and control modulesavailable out of crashed PT Cruisers, by now...  is yourfriend!-DS

If that was not offered  back then ,,,, then there was no module back theneither, you can interchange the modules from apllication to application suchas pt cruiser to stratus, the harness are different, the same with needeingto   know if it is an automatic trans or manual, assuming you are in an areathat requires a state emmission program.....u may have  serious problems

actually the module may work and i say that because  a friend in cali. has a300m with a 3.5 and i put in a salvage yard pcm from a year earlier car with a3.2 and used a drb to reset the module and even progamed a new skim into  andit's been running fine sincehe even passed emissions therei believe there is a car club called the 12th element  who hop up neon's andthat some of the th

the word "MAY WORK" thats a big may to swap out an engine to find out itwont work or wont pass emissions, keep in mind that if the engine doesntmatch the emissions label under the hood it will never pass anyhow...... ifchecked by an emissions inspector, not to mention anything about tamperingalso

Dan:I have a 2.2 turbo '85 LeBaron and the folks who mess with thosemotors have put together some amazing things.  Mine has an Omni GLHSengine control module with an overlay harness that lets the car runthe intake system from a '90 2.5.Figured there might be someone out there who has figured out how tohot rod a Stratus.I wonder if the head from the Stratus would swap on to a 2.4, allowingme to keep all the current controls?Probably way too much work, but fun to think about.Also, shoot me an email when you get a chance. No, the problem with running the 2.0 computer is that its spark and fuel curves are set up for the 2.0, not the 2.4. It would probably run, just probably somewhere between "not optimally" and "not very well".
