Thanks Adrian, I assumed the reference was to a qualified body here in the UK rather than the CCCA. American terminology is substantially differnt to that used in the UK, hence our definitions of Vintage, Veteran etc. so as I suspected it's completely irrelevant in my own terms of reference. I'd not noticed the global cross posting and had assumed that the discussion was confined to a UK based group. Cheers, Bill.

So a pivate collector's club makes up entry conditions and you regard those as rules made by a qualified body? That definition is certainly NOT universally accepted.

In my opinion, anyone who argues that a '65 GTO is *not* a classic has a bad case of rectal vision.

I am led to believe that in California vehicle tax is based on a percentage of the price of the car when new. This value is depreciated over the years so that in 20 years or so it is deemed to be of no value, hence no tax to pay. There are those who would then class the thing as a classic, but I can't quite see it myself ;-)

Incidentally one of the last acts of the ex-governor of the aforementioned state was to triple the rate of this tax, which goes some way towards explaining his recall and replacement by Conan the Barbarian.

Absolutely. 'Classic' and 'American' car just don't sit well together.

what on earth is going down here uk.rec.cars.classic being taken over by the yanks whatever has the world come to. All I can say as an occupant in the 53rd state of America I.E. the United Kingdom we do not accept your classification of vehicles in any way whatsoever. Rule Britannia.

And, to be fair, I've seen more than a few of *them* drop similar shiny unbaited hooks on the right-hand side of the pond and finish up with some fine River Itchen specimens flopping and gasping on the riverbank.

The problem with arguing Brit vs. US 'classics' in this environment is that the Brits generally aren't prepared to be objective in the discussion. It's sad, but true, if you see what I mean.

No one is *ever* objective over classics. If they were, they wouldn't own one.
