The engine and box are coming out of the SD1 next weekend and are going to be stored for a few months.
Is there anything I should be doing to prepare them for this (apart from drain them and get the out of the car)?
What routine, or perhaps non-routine jobs would you do to them while they were out? Bearing in mind I don't want to upset them too much, if they were running when I took them out I need to know they should still run when they go back in.

I'd not drain them, but if anything fill them up to the top with cheap oil after removing. Remove the spark plugs and fill up the bores then replace them. Do the same with the gearbox.
Obviously, drain and re-fill to the correct levels before re-use.
I do need to sort out a few oil leaks, so do I have 'golden hour/day/week' when I can have it empty of fluids to sort out the leaks/seals etc and genrally clean the beast up ?
Sould I fill it with water and anti freeze as well?
If it's an SD1 and it has been lumped around in storage, then I'd be tempted to prime the oil pump on refitting as well (take the end cover off, pack it with vaseline).
If you don't, then at least watch that oil pressure builds rapidly whilst spinning it on the starter with no ignition.
